Caribbean Stud live is undoubtedly one of the best casino games online if you’re a poker fan. That’s because this poker game draws mixed reactions from players who feel the game rules are reasonably simple to master while others opine the opposite.

Is Caribbean Stud Live Really Worth the Effort?

With that in mind, this article will look to debunk some misconceptions about this poker game. First, however, note that the 5.22% house edge is significantly higher than other poker variants like Texas Hold’em (below 2%).

How to Play Caribbean Stud Live

There are two main things to do before heading to the world of Caribbean Stud. First, you need to find the best live casino online to play at and deposit a minimum amount. Secondly, but most importantly, you must learn the poker hand rankings.

With these two things bagged up, proceed to place a bet and wait to be dealt five face-down cards. The dealer themselves will get one face-up card and four face-down cards. Remember, most live casino dealers will gladly help you settle down as fast as possible.

After reviewing the cards, you can either fold or pump up the ante by raising. When you raise, it means you’ll place a wager that’s 2x the ante.

Next, you and the dealer will flip over the face-down cards and hope that the dealer doesn’t qualify. For the dealer to proceed, they need A-K or better, with the weakest hand being A-K-4-3-2.

Suppose the dealer fails to qualify; you win even money at a payout rate of 1:1 and raise again. But if they win the hand, you’ll lose both the raise and the ante. Note that you win even money on the ante if the dealer qualifies but loses the hand.

Common Caribbean Stud Payouts

After flipping over the cards, you and the dealer will compare the hands to find out the stronger one. If it’s your hand that’s the strongest, you’ll get a 1:1 payout on the ante. Luckily, you can get a rate more than that if you’re dealt a hand that is two pairs or better.

Below is the paytable for Caribbean Stud:

  • Royal flush: 100:1
  • Straight flush: 50:1
  • Four of a kind (quads): 20:1
  • Full house (full boats): 7:1
  • Flush: 5:1
  • Straight: 4:1
  • Three of a kind: 3:1
  • Two pair: 2:1
  • Any other combination: 1:1

These wagers only qualify if the dealer gets a qualifying hand and your hand beats theirs. For example, if you get full Aces and the dealer displays a four of a kind, you lose the hand.

How to Win at Caribbean Stud

Unlike other live casino poker games, Caribbean Stud only allows players to make a single decision. After displaying the cards, you must decide whether to raise or fold.

Fortunately, you can beat the dealer by applying two simple strategies. For starters, always raise if the hand has any pair or better. Then, if this doesn’t work, you can always fold if the hand is weaker than A-K.

But what happens if you’re dealt an A-K? If the dealer shows any card between 2-Q, always raise if you have a card of the same rank. Likewise, if the dealer shows A or K, raise if your hand has a Q or J.

Another thing, raise if your hand has a Q and the croupier’s up-card is less than your fourth-highest card. For instance, they may show a 7 when you’re holding A-K-Q-9-2.

You can lower the wicked 5.22% house edge to around 2.56% if you stick to these simple strategies. But still, that this house edge is still higher than what you get on some online poker variants.

See, Caribbean Stud isn’t that challenging to master compared to other popular card games like blackjack. Although the 5.22% might seem intimidating at first, you can slash it to almost half using the correct strategy. You might as well want to prepare a bankroll for multiple bets to cut it further.
